With almost 20 years of researching nation branding, Andreas Markessinis is one of the leading voices in the field.

Considered as one the most influential authors in the discipline, he has written dozens of articles and essays and was the mastermind behind the Nation-Branding.info website, which for years was the authoritative news outlet about all things related to country branding.

He’s been invited to many nation branding workshops and has collaborated with leading minds and organizations. He’s also been visiting professor for nation branding seminars at the University of Barcelona.

Nation branding is my field of expertise and I've written dozens of articles and essays on the topic. They have been published at the popular Nation-Branding.info website, of which I am also founder and editor. This website was an immediate global hit when I launched it in 2006 but today it is inactive as I'm currently involved in other projects. Still, it is available and contains much of my work as well as of third-party researchers.

Prior to create Nation-Branding.info, in 2003 I was anticipating that Greece wasn't managing its country brand image properly, and I launched the BrandingGreece.com website to discuss the issue and share my opinions with others. It was a truly pioneering initiative, and other similar websites for other countries began to spring up here and there. 15 years later, the need for Greece to manage its brand is still obvious.

About Andreas

Born to a Greek ship captain and a Catalan physicist, Andreas grew up in a household where multi-national perspectives and different languages were the norm. Grown up in the area around Barcelona, he always had a deep curiosity about the world, cultures, and especially how nations are perceived on the global stage. From an early age, Andreas was fascinated by the reputation of countries, national images, and the powerful influence of the "Made in" label on global trade and consumer perception. As a well-traveled professional with a background in economics, he has researched extensively how nations craft their identities and how they could develop nation branding strategies that enhance a country's global standing, attract investment, and boost tourism. His work continues to analyze how nations present themselves in the 21st century, balancing tradition with modernity to create compelling and authentic national identities.
